SENATE RESOLUTION 9

Designating January 22, 2026, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature.
Whereas, 2026 marks the 170th anniversary of Tucker County and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, celebrating the county’s enduring contributions within the nation’s history; and
Whereas, The City of Parsons, the county seat of Tucker County, is located at the confluence of rivers and offers family-friendly festivals, impressive public parks, and a small-town atmosphere; and
Whereas, Continued progress on the construction of Corridor H (Route 48) through Tucker County enhances regional connectivity, improves transportation safety, and provides benefits to residents and travelers; and
Whereas, Tucker County is an important contributor to the state in the industries of tourism and outdoor recreation, as well as lumber and wood products; and
Whereas, Tucker County is home to two state parks, Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley; two designated wilderness areas, Dolly Sods and Otter Creek; and a portion of the Monongahela National Forest; and
Whereas, Blackwater Canyon, one of the most iconic and scenic landscapes in West Virginia, was formerly privately owned and now has been made part of the Monongahela National Forest; and
Whereas, Tucker County has a rich history, a unique culture, and incredible natural beauty that attracts visitors who seek authentic experiences; and
Whereas, The citizens of Tucker County travel to the state capitol on an annual basis during the legislative session to participate in the democratic process, in which they share their accomplishments, aspirations, and concerns with lawmakers; and
Whereas, It is fitting to recognize Tucker County for its history, culture, outdoor recreation, and inspiring future in the State of West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the representatives from Tucker County.
