SENATE RESOLUTION 34

[Introduced February 11, 2026]

 

Designating February 12, 2026, as Hospital Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Hospitals provide essential health care services to patients while serving as cornerstones of community health and economic stability; and

Whereas, Hospitals are among the top employers in West Virginia, directly employing nearly 54,000 people and indirectly supporting more than 46,000 West Virginia jobs, representing 14 percent of the state's workforce; and

Whereas, West Virginia hospitals are foundational economic pillars contributing more than $1 billion in community benefit and supporting $16.9 billion in economic activity to our state's economy; and

Whereas, West Virginia hospitals provide integrated care across the full health care continuum—from primary care and multi-specialty clinics to acute care, behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation, post-acute services, and more; and

Whereas, West Virginia hospitals provide care across millions of patient encounters each year, from welcoming newborns to delivering emergency care, inpatient services, and extensive outpatient treatment; and

Whereas, Every employee represents a vital part of West Virginia's remarkable hospital community, faithfully contributing to the mission of delivering exceptional care and meaningful engagement with patients; and

Whereas, West Virginia hospitals invest $92 million annually in community benefit activities to improve the health of local citizens, neighborhoods and communities they serve, including health screenings, wellness and nutrition programs, medical professional education, and disease research; and

Whereas, West Virginia hospitals remain grounded in their fundamental mission of patient care and community service, adapting to the evolving landscape of health care through enhanced outpatient services, new technologies, and coordinated care models; and

Whereas, Hospital Day at the Legislature gives us the opportunity to recognize all our hospitals and health care professionals; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates February 12, 2026, as Hospital Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representatives of the West Virginia Hospital Association.
