SENATE RESOLUTION 24

(By Senators Smith (Mr. President), Jeffries, and Taylor)

[Introduced March 12, 2025]

 

Designating March 13, 2025, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Tucker County was created in 1856, and is home to five incorporated communities: Parsons, Davis, Thomas, Hendricks, and Hambleton; and

Whereas, Tucker County is an important contributor to the state in the industries of tourism and outdoor recreation, as well as lumber and wood products; and

Whereas, The City of Parsons, the county seat, is located at the confluence of five rivers; and

Whereas, On the 40th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1985, we honor the lives tragically lost and celebrate the strength, courage, and spirit of our communities, whose efforts in the aftermath of the flood stand as a testament to the enduring power of unity and recovery; and

Whereas, The ongoing construction of Corridor H (Route 48) through Tucker County is a major investment in infrastructure, enhancing transportation, stimulating economic growth, and fostering regional development for years to come; and

Whereas, Tucker County is home to three state parks, Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, and Fairfax Stone, two designated wilderness areas, Dolly Sods and Otter Creek, and the Monongahela National Forest; and

Whereas, The preservation of Blackwater Canyon is a point of pride for Tucker County, with the U.S. Forest Service's recent acquisition of 2,700 acres expanding public access, protecting its unique features, and supporting recreation and tourism for future generations; and

Whereas, Tucker County has a rich history, a unique culture, and incredible natural beauty that attracts visitors who seek authentic experiences; and

Whereas, The citizens of Tucker County travel to the state capitol on an annual basis during the legislative session to participate in the democratic process, in which they share their accomplishments, aspirations, and concerns with lawmakers; and

Whereas, It is fitting to recognize Tucker County for its history, culture, outdoor recreation, and inspiring future in the state of West Virginia; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates March 13, 2025, as Tucker County Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate acknowledges the many contributions the citizens of Tucker County make in the state of West Virginia and encourages those citizens to continue to participate in the democratic process; and, be it

 Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representative of Tucker County.
