A BILL to amend and reenact §17A-2-8 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to eliminating satellite DMV offices and restoring their functions to private organizations.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

 

Article 2. Division of Motor Vehicles.

§17A-2-8. Commissioner of motor vehicles -- Office.

(a) The commissioner shall maintain an office in one of the State Capitol buildings. and in such other places in the state as he may deem necessary properly to carry out the powers and duties vested in the department The commissioner shall keep his or her offices office open at all reasonable times for the transaction of public business.

(b) Beginning July 1, 2025, the commissioner may maintain only one office, which shall confirm with subsection (a) of this section, and the duties previously performed by satellite offices shall be performed by private organizations, such as the American Automobile Association (AAA).

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to eliminate satellite DMV offices.
